Keeping Your New Year's Resolutions in 2010!!!

We are approaching New Year's Resolution time, otherwise known as a plethora of broken promises we make to ourselves. We set out with good intentions, but what happens between the intention, and the next day, when we find ourselves once again smoking, or reaching into that bag of chips?

The first step some of us attempt, is goal-setting. Studies have shown those who write down their goals, and review them regularly not only accomplish their goals far more then those who don't, but when checked in with later in life, are worth more, and are happier than those who didn't. I would recommend getting a goal book, writing down your goals, and life's "to do" list, and then maybe writing your top 5 on a separate page (which of course can change.) Look at this when you wake up, it will remind you of whats most important to you throughout your day.

"You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with "-Jim Rohn. How are the people you spend the most time with doing in different categories of life you value? Have you sat down with someone you admire to see what sets them apart? Are the people around you pushing you to be better?

Belief is by far, one of the most important elements in achievement. Without an inner belief that you truly deserve and can achieve what you want, all intentions, hopes, well wishes, and manifesting go out the window. Some of us were told lies growing up, or through tough relationships, have falsely accessed ourselves. Clean that slate, and decide to rewrite it. Spend some time with yourself. It's in these quiet sober moments, free from distraction, we can look in the mirror, forgive ourselves and others, drop and thank our regrets, and move forward. We are all children of god, and we deserve the very best. We must know our soul is still unscathed, and strong, as it reminds us of the importance and responsibility of finding our life purpose, and living that out to our full potential. One tip is looking at the lessons learned during your darkest times, flipping that, and helping others through what you've learned. Then those lessons that once were heavy bricks holding you down, can now become building blocks to your unlimited future. It's important to realize you are not your past, you are what you do now, and in every moment we have a choice. You will achieve 100% of what you think you will, and deserve in this life. Do what you need to do to make sure your true inner beliefs are in check. In our seminars, and coaching we go through those beliefs, and create daily affirmations to help you remember.

Our old patterns, often drag us back into our old behaviors and sabotage our resolutions no matter how much we want change, and no matter how hard we try. Breaking patterns is not easy, there is no quick fix, but it is possible to break patterns. There are two main steps to breaking patterns: Awareness, and Mental Rehearsal (practice,) Neuroscience proves that with practice, we can actually rewire our brains. Techniques like Mental Rehearsal I teach in my seminars, and through coaching, help us practice what we will do ahead of time, when we are faced with the option of reaching into the bag of chips, or for that cigarette. Mental rehearsal gives you the preparation you need for the game. It requires work, just like working out a muscle, but it can be done.

Awareness is taking the time out throughout the day with a clear healthy mind, being an observer on your shoulder, separating yourself from your body, your ego, your thoughts, your emotions, your head, and observing what you are thinking, feeling, saying, and doing, in that moment, and knowing that you have 100% control over each choice, and in each category in each moment. With this awareness, you can decide to be in control of your environment, and emotions, rather then the other way around. We repeat what we are comfortable with, and what we know, but real freedom, happiness, and change happens, when we go to that scary unknown place. This is the door to change, where the magic happens, and it does get easier. Last is replacement, having a thought, and new behavior to replace each and every time you attempt your old behavior.

I believe these elements, combined with a big enough why, will assist you in keeping your 2010 Resolutions. Here's to unlimited success for all of us in 2010.
